Sign me up! METRO shows off new signs in Midtown Phoenix

The signs are there..
No really, the signs are there.
METRO peeps showing off new signage at light rail stops near points of interest, like the one above at the Encanto and Central platform in Midtown Phoenix.
The sign above, points to which side of the platform the departing train is heading. I think METRO should’ve added “Avenue” to the 19th/Montebello direction. Visitors may get confused. I know people who live here and don’t know the difference between the avenues and streets.
Anyway, the 19th/Montebello train heads to Northwest Phoenix, board right. Sycamore and Main, board left.
Notice the points of interest underneath each direction.
Meanwhile…a few feet away…
Take a look at the picture above. Look past mom(s) and baby…
This is another public art display. I’ve blogged about the others. You know, the ones I’ve dubbed Club Phoenix.
This one is different, and indicative of the attraction near the stop. Well done.
And last, here’s one more photo, just so I can name drop and get more hits to my blog… (I know, I’m terrible)
Phoenix Councilman Tom Simplot and METRO CEO Rick Simonetta were also at Thursday’s event.
Switching gears here…or should I say…switching tracks…
I noticed something that needs attention. People walking on the tracks to the event instead of using the crosswalk!!!
Folks…this is BAD.
BAD BAD BAD.
And dangerous.
Just because the word “light” is used in the phrase LIGHT RAIL VEHICLE, it doesn’t mean the train weighs as much as an empty can of Coke.
In fact, each car is 102,000 pounds. That’s like being squashed by 10 African Elephants. Add speed to the equation and, well, I hope you get the idea.
I didn’t take a picture of these people because I don’t want to make an example of them in photos.
However, I did see this with my own two eyes, so let’s just end this post here and use this opportunity to go over some METRO safety measures.
OR…since the being-hit-by-a-train concept isn’t getting into people’s heads…let’s start a nasty urban myth…like, walking on the light rail tracks can cause an electrocution.
I’m just sayin’…
