STOMP your way to Gammage on the Phoenix light rail

I normally DO NOT like to post without pictures, but this was so amazingly cool I have to blog SOMETHING.
My friend Tonia invited me to go see STOMP Tuesday night at ASU Gammage. I heard of the performance and kind of knew what to expect, but I’ve never seen any clips or pictures of the crew in action.
Just a little background: STOMP is a production out of the U.K. where performers use ordinary items one might find in the trash to create rhythmic beats and a visual spectacle that will have you stomping for more. You can read a detailed description about the show here.
First, the theater has great acoustics! I have never been to Gammage before and I was impressed. From the Mill Avenue light rail station, it’s about a 10 minute walk south on Mill Avenue. The theater sits on the east side of the street.
The cast had this retro hip 80′s dance look about them – I loved the female dancer with the pink armband and the gymnast guy!
The set had the feel of a garbage dump or sewer depending on the lighting. I know you’re probably thinking “eww!” – but trust me..it works!!! The cast used everything from paint cans, to broom sticks, to steel drums as stilts – anything in a garage or home that makes sound. Some of the cast members even brought out the kitchen sink AND the dishwater.
Those who saw the performance know what I’m talking about – I won’t give away this surprise nugget in the show.
The performance runs an hour and a half with NO intermission and you should get there on time. There is a 12 minute “hold” at the beginning of the show.
Not only is the cast making music with trash, but the show has so much energy I turned to Tonia half way through and asked “I want to know what they eat during the day” - they must have the caloric intake of an Olympic swimmer to put on a performance with non stop movement.
If you have any pictures from last night, I would love to share them on this post! Email me - tony <at> lightrailblogger <dot> com.

Yay! I’m so glad you had a blast!
This is a must see show, even if you’ve seen it before!

Glad you liked the show! Also, thanks for blogging about how easy it is to get to Gammage on light rail. I think a lot of people think about using the rail to get to sporting events, but not as many consider getting to a theater show on it.
One other thing to mention is that the city of Tempe has a free local shuttle called FLASH, which primarily serves the ASU campus. FLASH buses run every 5-10 minutes and part of the route runs down Mill from the Mill/3rd St. station to Gammage. That should make it even easier for people who want to take light rail to Gammage, but want to avoid the 10 minute walk.
