Celebrating Independents week at the Heard Museum Cafe

In celebration of National Independence Week, I’m visiting local businesses I’ve never been to along the Phoenix light rail.
After dealing with all the dramarama involving my car (read about the news here), I needed a place to eat and unwind. The Heard Museum was the perfect choice.
The museum, home to one of the best collections of Native American art, also has a small cafe in the back of the courtyard. Since the facility sits some distance from Central Avenue, you don’t hear too much traffic. Add a couple of waterfalls, trees, and you’ve got a nice retreat from city life. Read my review here.
The Heard Museum is a Valley gem. Besides art, there are plenty of activities and events to enjoy. Find out more information here. Several people have told me third Fridays and the museum’s NU event are a blast if you’re looking for a fun night of dancing somewhere along the light rail.
Speaking of which, the Heard Museum is directly across the street from the Encanto and Central Avenue stop, also known as the Heard Museum station. Find out how to use the light rail in Phoenix and how to Share the Ride on Valley Metro’s website here.
As for shopping the rest of the week, be sure to get a Golden Coupon good for 20 percent off at participating businesses here. The Local First AZ site also has 10 tips for shopping local.
