UPDATE: Valley transit riders are giddy with excitement (or just one geeky blogger) at the possibility of an iPhone app for the Phoenix lightrail – especially after the company that makes the app commented on this post! What did he say? Read on.
I won’t believe the news until I see see it with my own two eyes. An iPhone app for our transit system? And with augmented reality. OH EM GEE!! I’m practically giddy! Click here.

Google Maps already does a lot of this, unfortunately my emails to Valley Metro haven’t resulted in the (ridiculously easy) information being sent to Google. (I’d volunteer to code the data export routine for them, in fact!)

@lightrailblog not to mention it doesn’t even do anything route-wise. I created an account, looks like it’s just Myspace for carpoolers.

I doubt it’ll have information about out transit system considering we can’t even get “next train” information to show at the stations. A nice idea, for sure. And, it could be very helpful when traveling.

We just have METRO light rail stations encoded, plus some information we’ve taken from Wikipedia. If the app is successful, we’ll probably start integrating more Google Transit features. This will depend on Phoenix ending up here: http://code.google.com/p/googletransitdatafeed/wiki/PublicFeeds of course
