New and noteworthy near the lightrail

New business is sprouting up everywhere near the lightrail in downtown Phoenix. Recently Yoga Den set up digs at the new-ish Alta Phoenix Lofts at 3rd Street and Pierce. A flyer from the studio says they have unlimited monthly sessions for $29 (first month only). You can find Yoga Den online here, or in person you can take the train to Central station, head north on Central Avenue and east on Fillmore to 3rd Street. Turn north to Pierce.
Also opening up in the downtown district is the Latino Cultural Center. The center, located at 1st Street and Adams, opened during December’s First Friday to a crowd of hundreds. Believe it or not, this is the first center dedicated to celebrating the latino art community in Phoenix. “We are absolutely honored to be able to open doors for Latino arts & culture,” says ErLinda Torres who sits on the board of directors and says the center will establish a legacy for the community. “This cultural center is for all citizens of Phoenix and Arizona, says Torres. The Latino Cultural Center opened with the help of the Phoenix Art Museum and the city of Phoenix. No word on when the next exhibit will take place but you can keep checking back here. From the lightrail station at Central and Washington, head to north to Adams and east to 1st Street.
Next, onto my favorite subject: coffee. Lola added another location (top picture) in Central Phoenix in the Roosevelt District. Lola also has a coffeebar on Central closer to the Camelback station. Step in to the new Roosevelt location (near 3rd Avenue) and you feel like you’ve left Phoenix. The owner did a great job building out the space with lots of character, charm and style. Lola roasts their own beans and I took away a berry tart that was phenomenol! Welcome to the ‘hood, Lola! Take the Roosevelt station and head westbound to 3rd Avenue. There are some other new businesses on my lis to check out like Urban Bean and Hula’s – in addition to some other ones hanging their open sign in the front window in the near future. Stay tuned!

Hey dude I found your magnet at Central and Washington, and blogged about it. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Thanks for the comment. Actually, I didn’t put the magnet there? I think I know who did since I only gave it to one person.
I’ll have a talk with her about tagging public places with my mug.

Wow, so many things are opening along the light rail route! Downtown is really trying in earnest to revitalize itself even as it deals with the economy. The light rail is certainly contributing to increased efforts for new franchises that are sprouting up downtown. I’ve heard good things about the Alta Lofts and having a Yoga Den inside is such a benefit. I’ll have to check out the place.
