The future of lightrail service in Phoenix

Fact or fiction: does METRO plan to cut back lightrail service starting in February? This is the word on street in Downtown Phoenix, however METRO spokesperson Hillary Foose says that is incorrect:
We are contemplating service changes as a result of a lack of sales tax collections, which largely funds our operation. We will be going to public hearings in February and March to get public input on potential changes. That might be where the confusion is. However, no decisions will be finalized until early summer, May-ish. They have to go through our Board and a city approval process.

Could we see more one car trains? Reduced service on Sundays? Will transit riders say goodbye to late night light rail service on the weekends? We’ll all have to wait a few months for the answer. Meanwhile, if you want to have your say, you can be heard at a public hearing in Tempe in late February (information here). The dates in Phoenix, which will be a part of the bigger budget meetings, have not yet been determined.
