Art Detour

In between working, blogging, and coffeebar potluck planning, I’m also volunteering to help Art Link put on a fantastic and educational Art Detour this weekend (March 6th and 7th). In case you’re not familiar with the event, Art Detour is a self-guided tour of the local artist studios and galleries in Downtown Phoenix. The event is different from First Fridays in that many of the artists open up their workspaces and allow kids to come in and take part in painting activities. The event is free and this year is even more important with many school districts skimping on art programs because of budget cuts. There are plenty of studios within walking distance or a quick bike ride from the light rail. For more informaiton, click here and find informtion on how to ride the light rail here.
Meanwhile, I’m responsible for getting some of the swag for the Kids Detour gift bags. I want to thank these downtown organizations for their generosity and providing us with some great gifts for the kids!
- Arizona Science Center
- Heard Museum
- METRO Light Rail
- Phoenix Fire Department
Art Link is also looking for volunteers to help hand out maps and the Kids Detour bags. If you can spare an hour or two of your time on Saturday or Sunday, please click on the contact in the navigation bar above so I can put you in touch with Art Detour organizers in charge of the volunteers. Thanks in advance for helping to make Art Detour a success!
