Battle of the burgers along the light rail
Posted on 08. Mar, 2010 by Tony Arranaga in News
There’s a battle of the $3 burger taking place along the light rail in Phoenix. Maize’s (Camelback station) has a Monday night special, toppings are extra. Down the road at Fez on Central (Indian School station), the restaurant has a three buck burger of the day on Monday nights. There are two other burger joints along the light rail – Portland’s (Roosevelt station) and Local Breeze (Central station), however Local Breeze is closed on Mondays. No word on a Monday special at Portland’s… yet?
Information on how to ride the light rail can be found here, and Maize’s, Fez, Local Breeze, Portland’s. Enjoy!

I have to put in my vote for District’s burger. Certainly no Monday night special there. I like Maize’s for Mondays, but District tops all, I think. It’s definitely my hangover burger.

I’m right up the street from District … I’ll have to try their burgers! Local Breeze is pretty good too!

Actually, Chloe, District does occasionally do a $3 burger. I’m not sure whether it’s the same as their full price burger, and I can’t remember which night of the week I had it, but I will agree that it’s a pretty terrific burger.

I’ll have to be on the look out for their $3 night… or maybe share this post with them? I like the idea of ‘battle of the burgers’

I love the burger from Maize’s. But my favorite burger is Delux. I need to try District’s burger.

Delux has good sweet potato fries as well. Alas.. the restaurant is a bit of a haul from the METRO (32nd and Camelback).

I was a bit disappointed on my first visit to FEZ a month or so ago — I had heard all the hype but for some reason it just didn’t match up to what I got. I may do a re-visit, but I know there’s lots of other places to try as well.

Give it another try… their weekend brunch I hear is phenomenal. We’ll have to get an Alta group together and go one weekend!

To be sure, Delux is the best burger in Phoenix.
As far as burgers on the rail however, I have to say that the best value is still Lenny’s at the Central/Thomas station. Having eaten at Portlands & Maize’s multiple times, I’d still go with Lenny’s for product and service.

though I also hear great things about the burger at Matt’s Big Breakfast.

Lenny’s? Hmm.. I’ll have to try it out! I think that’s on the Southeast corner of Thomas/Central?
Actually, I also like Two Hippies on 7th St and Indian School.

OK – now we have the burgers at Phoenix Public Market! Last night was the debut of local grass-fed beef burgers on the grill outside at the Market. Delicious.

Portland’s has a Wednesday Tweet and Facebook special each week! The special is always $5 and they have a new beer each week that’s discounted during happy hour. The Tommy Burger is my recommendation by far!
