Carfree in Phoenix part 5
Posted on 11. Apr, 2010 by Tony Arranaga in Featured, News
As part of Valley Metro’s Valley Bike Month, I’m talking to professionals in Phoenix who live car-free. Whether you want to help clean the air, reduce congestion on the roads, or get better acquainted with your city – professionals all around Downtown Phoenix want to experience life car-free in the urban core.
If you haven’t bumped into photographer/artist Tyson Crosbie at a coffee bar, then you’ve probably seen his work. Crosbie’s signature fine art work involve pictures of decaying objects for a continuing series based on our city. In addition, he takes a great headshot.
Tyson and his wife, Jamie, live in downtown Phoenix and share a car. When Jamie is using the car during the week for work, Tyson uses his fixed gear bike and the light rail to get around town. What are some of his favorite pit stops during his commute?
I’m really a destination rail rider and rarely hop off the train unless it is where I’m going. However, I will use the rail to cowork at other coffee shops on my days off. I frequent Lux and Lola and even stop by Maizies for their $3 burger night. Although there are days I’d rather just ride the 5 miles since we’re so lucky to have nice weather year round (not counting August).

The pictures in this post were taken during a photo walk organized by Tyson. He and a group of friends targeted a section of Central Phoenix to capture images. The ones he shot are now being used in his latest fine art collection. Meanwhile, the rest of us were there to observe his creative process and maybe come up with one on our own for taking pictures. You can see the images taken by the group here.
