Many people ask me for suggestions on where to eat along the light rail in Phoenix. The places that top my list are Hanny’s, St. Francis, and Postino, however that’s just scratching the surface of the all the fabulous places to eat in our urban core.
Last Friday, the folks with downtownphoenix.com invited me to a restaurant tasting to showcase some of the great downtown dining destinations like District Kitchen (Central Station), Sam’s Cafe (Central Station) and Thai Elephant (Central/Washington Station). A spokesperson for the event tells me there are 118 restaurants in our urban core, a number that will soon reach 150 with the addition of many restaurants including some opening at the new City Scape project across from the Central and Washington light rail station.
The downtownphoenix.com just released a Downtown Dining Guide, which has all the information you need when looking for a place to eat along the light rail. In addition, you’ll also find a map of the restaurant locations and dozens of coupons!
If you forget to bring your dining guide on your next trip, then just look for one of the Downtown Phoenix Ambassadors (picture) who can guide you to your dining destination, use his/her handheld for any available coupons and print one up on the spot! Our hot desert oasis is oh-so-cool!

HI Tony! are we on your list of places to eat? We are really pushing our lunches, and our afternoon/evening small plates are terrific if you haven’t tried them come on by!

Hi Virginia! Of course, you are on MY list of places to eat and drink, however the Downtown Phoenix Partnership only listed restaurants in the Copper Square section of our urban core. Which is the organizations district.
I will be putting out my own ‘best of’ and will be sure to include you!
READERS: Virginia is the owner of Urban Beans on 7th Street just north of Osborn. Urban Beans is a great place to hang out and chill with a cup of coffee. UB now has an expanded menu and I also read on Twitter that the business is doing wine tastings! Find out more information by visiting the Urban Beans website here: http://urbanbeans.com/
Urban Beans is located 7 blocks from the Osborn Light Rail Station. You can either walk or take your bike! Virginia has bike racks!
