Student Ambassadors to Assist Riders at Three Light Rail Stations
Posted on 23. Aug, 2010 by Tony Arranaga in News
A pilot program aimed at promoting light rail safety and assisting riders in Phoenix and Tempe starts today and continues for two weeks. METRO light rail tells me volunteers are needed to be part of the Student Transit Ambassador program. The volunteers will be on hand at three light rail stations – Van Buren and Central (ASU downtown Phoenix campus), Veterans Way and College and University Drive and Rural (ASU Tempe campus), according to the State Press (source). The outreach program will help new students unfamiliar with the public transportation system here in the Valley. ASU is housing a record 1,200 students at Taylor Place, which is located just a few blocks east of Central Station. Those interested in helping are asked to email trpdept <at> asu < . > edu.
The program comes on the heels of another new student orientation event held last week. The Barrett Urban Experience was a huge success from the looks of the update over on the Barrett Honors College Facebook page. Downtown advocates were brought in to speak to students and share all the events and places that make downtown Phoenix a fun place to live, work and play. Special thanks to Yuri and Taz for helping out on the light rail portion of the presentation!
