The Children’s Museum of Phoenix engages the minds of kids (from birth to 10 years old) with interactive exhibits and displays. Take the light rail and deboard at either of the 3rd Street Stations. People with kids tell me it’s a little bit of walk with a family in tow which is why you may want to consider riding a bike from the train to finish that last mile of your commute. See a complete list of arts and culture along the light rail here: Valley Metro’s Ride Guide.

I’m a huge fan of CMOP and take my kids there at least once a month. Nevertheless, CMOP makes it more difficult than it needs to be to reach the museum via public transport. When CMOP renovated the old Monroe School, a decision was made not to use the historic entrance facing 7th St. and instead make the sole point of entry the rear entrance facing the parking lot. That might be understandable given that most visitors arrive by car, but CMOP could have at least provided a clearly defined, attractive pedestrian path from 7th St. to the rear entrance. Instead, there is an ugly chain link fence running along the entire 7th street side of the museum. Those arriving on foot must walk all the way around to Van Buren and then approach the museum via the same driveway that cars use. It’s an unsafe and unpleasant situation that CMOP needs to correct immediately.
