UPDATE

The growing bike culture in Phoenix is making news in the latest edition of Wavelength Magazine. Author Si Robins, (DPJ, A Car-Lite Lifestyle in Downtown Phoenix,) introduces us to several people who are spending less time behind the wheel of a car and more time holding handlebars on a bike. It’s true, Robins tells us more people are embracing this form of alternative transportation.

A growing number of Valley residents are getting around on two narrow wheels, biking to and from work (or for–gasp–their personal life), reducing polution and getting exercise while getting out from behind glass and wheel.

Instead of telling us about people who like bikes, Robins looks at how people have created a life around their bike. Yours truly is mentioned in the piece, and so is Joseph Perez from The Bicycle Cellar (Tempe) and bike-polo fan Erica Lucci.

The other day, I mentioned some fun things to do in my post Weekend Fun along the Phoenix light rail and wanted to pass along new information. The weather today is great for a bike ride and this new and improved Light Rail Blogger Phoenix light rail map should help in your trip. The map shows all the stations along the 20 mile starter line, in addition to nearby restaurants with bike racks in Phoenix. You might recall, I’m participating in a 30 Days of Biking in Phoenix. The challenge calls for people to ride whenever possible over a 30 day period and post details about the trip on Twitter. Hopefully your ride won’t have as much drama as this one.

If you decided to take your bike for a spin today, be sure to share your trip (drama free or not) in the comments below. Enjoy the ride!
