Then there are bicyclists who wear helmets to protect their heads and in some cases a special shoe that locks with the pedal for endurance racing.  However not everyone rides like they’re racing the winding roads of the Tour de France, but rather the using their people powered form of transportation in an effort to live carfree.  In an effort to save some money, I wanted to ride my bike to a lunch meeting as opposed to calling a cab. I wasn’t feeling a sneakers look, but I thought looking fashionable by wearing boots and a long sleeve oxford shirt was overdressed for a bike ride. What’s the appropriate style when you’re riding a bike around Downtown Phoenix? Are casual clothes and sneakers still the norm or is it ok to wear a suit, dress shirt or even cowboy boots during your carfree or bike commute? This was my dilema getting ready for a lunch meeting with the women of CenPho – they got a shot of my CenPho cycle chic.

I mean really, who dresses up to ride a bike? Come to find out people in most major metropolitan cities dress up to go downtown. Check out how the brits are riding in style on London Cycle Chic (and you can also fan them on Facebook), the Los Angeles Cycle Chic takes a look at how people in there are bringing sexy back on bikes, however my favorite is the mother of all that’s chic on wheels – the original Cycle Chic of Copenhagen.  Copenhagen’s latest post (as of this date) shows people thumbing their nose to mother nature, holding an umbrella in one hand, a bike handle in the other and all while wearing heels while navigating their bikes along the slick streets. That’s awesome.

The moral of this story: It’s not important what you wear, but how you ride.
